Documentation & Details

Features

The LabJack T4 features 12 analog inputs. The inputs are divided into two distinct groups:.

  • High-Voltage Channels (AIN0–AIN3): Four dedicated channels with a ±10V range.
  • Low-Voltage (Flex) Channels (AIN4–AIN11): Eight flexible channels with a 0-2.5V range.

All inputs have:

  • Up to 50 kHz sampling rate, shared.
  • 12-Bit Resolution: Provides reliable precision for most general-purpose measurement applications.

For more information see: 14.3.1 Analog Inputs - T4

The T4 features 8 flexible I/O lines that are individually software-configurable as either analog inputs or digital I/O.

For more detail see: 13.1 Flexible I/O

Onboard Signal Analysis

AIN_EF (Analog Input Extended Features) simplifies your workflow by performing mathematical operations directly on the device. This allows for data processing without additional complication or overhead on your host computer. Key features include:

  • Min/Max/Average: Samples at a specified rate and duration, then returns calculated values for that data set.
  • RMS: Automatically computes the Root Mean Square of a signal.
  • Temperature Conversion: Directly calculates temperature from RTD, Thermistor, or Thermocouple inputs.

For a full list of the available modes and information about usage see: 14.1 AIN Extended Features

The LabJack T4 features up to 16 Digital I/O. Eight of those are flex lines (DIO4–DIO11) that can be individually configured as either digital I/O or analog inputs.

Key Capabilities:

  • 3.3V Logic
  • 5V Tolerant: Directly connect 5V signals.
  • Flex Lines: Can be configured to be analog inputs or digital IO.
  • Larger Voltages: Connect larger voltages using the LJTick-Divider
  • Relays: Control Relays using the LJTick-RelayDriver, or the RB12.

Digital Signal Measurement & Generation

DIO_EF has several modes that measure, count, or generate digital waveforms. These features allow the device to handle high-speed timing and signal logic independently of software polling.

  • PWM Output: Generate pulse-width modulated signals with configurable frequency, duty cycle, phase offsets, and pulse counts.
  • Counter: Tally how many times a pulse is observed on a line.
  • Frequency & Period Measurement: Measure the frequency, period, or pulse width of incoming digital signals.
  • Quadrature Decoding: Interface with rotary encoders to track position and direction of rotation.
  • Pulse/Line-to-Line Timing: Measure the exact time elapsed between signal edges on two different digital inputs.

For more information and implementation details, see the DIO_EF T-Series Datasheet

The T4 features two analog outputs (DAC0 and DAC1) that provide software-controlled voltage signals.

Key Specifications:

  • 12-Bit Resolution: Enables fine-tuned control of output levels with high repeatability.
  • 0 to 5V Range: Perfectly suited for commanding motor drivers, industrial actuators, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
  • Low Latency: Update voltages instantly via the LJM driver or onboard Lua scripting for real-time control loops.

T-series devices can run Lua scripts directly in the firmware. This enables the device to operate autonomously, performing logic and control sequences without the need for a host computer.

Common Applications:

  • Standalone Operation: Program the device to run automatically on power-up, making it great for remote or embedded installations.
  • Digital Sensor Interfacing: Move the complexity of I2C, SPI, 1-Wire, or SDI-12 communication onto the device. The script handles the low-level protocol, allowing the host app to simply read the final results.
  • Custom Logic & Alarms: Monitor inputs and trigger digital outputs or specific actions based on user-defined thresholds.
  • Data Pre-processing: Scale, filter, or format data onboard before sending it to your software or cloud dashboard.
  • Complex Sequences: Automate multi-step processes, such as ramp-and-soak temperature profiles.
  • Digital Sensors: Place of the complexity of interfacing with digital sensors in the device. The host app will then only need to read the final results.
