Word is spreading... LabJack is the go-to data acquisition hardware choice for rocketry teams around the world. Most recently we had the opportunity to partner with the University of Akron and their "Akronauts" Rocketry Team.
What progress has the Akronauts Rocket Design team made?
This past year, LabJack partnered with the Akronauts Rocket Design team, providing them with a range of equipment including T7, MUX80 expansion board, CB37s, and the necessary accessories. With this support, Akronauts has been able to make significant progress on their liquid engine project. Let's take a look at what they have accomplished so far!
Building the Test Stand
One of the first tasks the Akronauts tackled was building the test stand. This crucial component allows them to safely test and evaluate their rocket engine. With LabJack's hardware, they were able to acquire the necessary equipment and materials to construct a robust and reliable test stand.
Successful Testing Milestones
Over the past year, the Akronauts have achieved several important testing milestones:
- Hydrostatic Pressure Testing: Conducted thorough pressure testing to ensure the structural integrity of the engine under different conditions.
- Water Flow Testing: Testing the flow of water through the engine allowed them to optimize its cooling system and identify any potential issues.
- Cold Flow Testing: In their most recent milestone, the Akronauts team successfully conducted cold flow testing, which involved running the engine with propellants at ambient temperature. This test helped them validate the engine's overall functionality.
LabJack has provided an extremely user-friendly way to gather absurd amounts of data. The interface is fast, flexible, and powerful, and there are resources available for any questions we have. Aaron Hoffman-Akronauts Team President
Goal Achieved! Hot-Fire Test
With each milestone achieved, the Akronauts grew closer to their ultimate goal: the hot-fire test. The hot-fire test included igniting the engine with propellants and evaluating its performance under realistic operating conditions.
We are incredibly grateful to LabJack for their sponsorship, as it has played a vital role in our progress. Without their support, none of this would have been possible. We would like to express our sincere appreciation for their contribution to our project.
Stay tuned for more updates as the Akronauts continue on their journey towards making their rocket design a reality!
