I assume the U12 and U3 are completely different? I have a U3 but haven't been able to find a Linux interface. May get a U12. AS I understand it, the U12 has more internal capability.

The U3 is cheaper, faster, newer, and all around better than the U12. The differences are explained on our comparison page.
While we don’t have a Perl interface for the UD family of devices on Mac OS X and Linux, we do have LJFuse. LJFuse makes working with our devices as simple as reading from a file. We even provided a Perl example.
