Announcing New CloudDot Storage System, Downtime Next Week

Starting next Monday, April 26th, we will be temporarily taking down our CloudDot service. The service will be operational by Friday, April 30th, at the latest. We have some big changes and almost every aspect of the system is effected by it.

We’re changing to a new, more efficient, way to store your CloudDot data. You’ll now be able to access data that goes as far back as a year, plus fast access to hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly summaries. For each summary, you’ll see time series plots of max, min, and average values. Because we’ll be performing numeric calculations to summarize your data, you’ll no longer be able to write string data to CloudDot channels. Starting next Monday, it’s numeric data only. There are lots of ways to map strings to numbers, including using a CloudDot converter. If your data absolutely must stay in string form, you can upload it to Amazon S3 from a CloudDot script.

We hope that this won’t provide too much of an inconvenience, and we promise that the improvements to the system will make up for it.
